Our story begins with Paul Chitel who founded Polytarp Products in 1957 and continues today, with Polytarp developing new products and growing to service a variety of industries throughout North America.

We are one of the largest privately owned flexible films manufacturing companies in Canada.

Our 100,000+ sq ft production space includes the latest extrusion and converting equipment capable of producing single and multi-layer sheeting, tubing and bags, complemented by a state-of-the-art R&D lab that develops new products to meet our customers’ specific needs.

What sets us apart is continuous collaboration with our customers and suppliers as well as ongoing investments in research and sustainability.

Over 60 Years of Product Excellence

1957
Polytarp is officially open for business as a distributor for tarps in the construction industry.
1963
Moved production to North York. Started manufacturing sewn tarps for the construction industry.

1969
Began distributing poly films and manufacturing solar blankets and winter covers for the swimming pool industry.
1973
Purchased and constructed our 100,000+ sq ft manufacturing plant at 350 Wildcat Road in North York, Ontario.
1974
Installed our first extruder to manufacture polyethylene for the construction industry.
1980s
Continually increased the number of extruders to better service our growing client base.
1987
Achieved CGSB Certification for the construction industry for our Super Six Vapour Barrier products.
1982
Led the industry in sustainability by implementing a first of its kind recycling program for our trim and product waste.
1994
Started manufacturing food-grade polyethylene bags and film.
1999
Installed a multi-layer extruder and introduced our Polyfresh line of products for the food industry.
2000
Continued to increase the number of extruders for the food industry.
2006
Attained the ISO 9001 certification.

2008
Installed a 7-layer extruder for high-barrier food products, focusing on poultry on pork.
2010
Got FSSC-22000 certified. The food certification incorporated HACCP.

Installed a 9-layer extruder for ultra-high barrier food products.

2016
Purchased and installed a laminator and slitter, expanding our portfolio to PET and other laminate-based products.
2017
Invested in a 5-layer extruder.
2023
Installed a ultra-wide 3-layer extruder that enabled co-ex capabilities for various products up to 28 ft widths.
2024
Received registration for ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) that encompasses resource usage, waste management, environmental performance and more.
