At Polytarp Products, we believe in doing our part to make a difference in our community and beyond. That's why we’re proud to announce our new partnership with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization. Through this partnership, we’re joining the fight against food waste and supporting efforts to bring nutritious food to Canadians in need. For us, this partnership is a natural extension of our commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
Second Harvest plays a vital role in the effort to reduce food waste and address food insecurity. Every year, 8.83 million metric tonnes of edible food are lost in Canada, while 8.7 million Canadians struggle with food insecurity. Second Harvest rescues surplus food from producers, retailers, and other sources and redistributes it to charities and non-profit organizations nationwide. By doing so, they’re not only feeding people in need but also reducing the environmental impact of wasted food—helping create a sustainable future for all of us.
Through programs like Food Rescue, Harvest Kitchens, and Feeding Our Future, Second Harvest tackles hunger and food waste head-on, while educating communities on sustainable food practices. Their work aligns with Canada’s commitment to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially in areas like Climate Action, Zero Hunger, and Responsible Consumption and Production.
At Polytarp, we’re constantly looking for ways to make a positive impact. By supporting Second Harvest, we’re helping address some of the biggest challenges facing our communities: hunger and food waste. This partnership is a testament to our shared vision—a future where food doesn’t go to waste and every Canadian has access to nutritious meals.
Steve Ghantous, our President, shares his perspective: “Our work with Second Harvest supports the same goals that drive us every day—to create innovative packaging solutions that keep food fresh longer, reduce waste, and minimize environmental impact. By partnering with Second Harvest, we’re amplifying our commitment to sustainable practices and doing our part to support Canadian communities. This collaboration is more than a donation; it’s a step forward in realizing a more sustainable and resilient future.”
Our commitment to reducing waste isn’t just about giving back; it’s deeply woven into the products we create. We design packaging solutions that help extend the freshness and shelf life of food products, aiming to minimize food loss from farm to table. This work reinforces our dedication to sustainability and complements Second Harvest’s mission of “No Waste. No Hunger.”
In addition to making an annual contribution to Second Harvest’s important work, Polytarp Products will be hosting two food drives each year—one around the holidays and another in the spring. Participation is completely voluntary, but we invite everyone to get involved and make a difference. These food drives will bring together employees, their families, and friends in support of a vital cause that unites us all.

Our partnership with Second Harvest is a reflection of our values and our commitment to the communities we serve. Together, we’re working towards a Canada where food is shared, not wasted, and where we protect our planet for future generations.
As we look forward, we’re excited to deepen our impact through meaningful collaborations like this one. At Polytarp Products, we understand that tackling challenges like hunger and food waste requires collective effort, and we’re honored to be part of this journey with Second Harvest.
By joining hands with organizations like Second Harvest, we’re not just helping to feed Canadians; we’re building a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone. We look forward to the positive change this partnership will bring and are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, one meal—and one package—at a time.
